“The thumb rule was among all the five Ws of news — What, When, Where, Who, Why — it was always the Why? that needed to be kept in mind.

Why is he saying it?

Why is he hiding it?

Why did he do it?

In other words, ‘What the politician is hiding is news and what he is saying is just a PR quote.’

As the YouTube era boomed and podcasts became fashionable, 22-year-old Ranveer Allahbadia entered some of our lives.”

PS: My views about this are simply that if you find that something is “not in good taste”, then you just choose to stay away — or react with a condemnation, an unsubscription, or however you want to show your displeasure. But the way this is going, it appears that this is the most horrendous thing to have happened.

FOE means you deal with the intelligent, the silly, the dangerous, the stupid… Plus, aren’t there far more pressing things for governmental bodies outrage about? Why always choose soft targets like cinema, culture…?

The other day, I was on a panel with Rajiv Menon and Shobu Yarlagadda, speaking about mythology and contemporary cinema. But when the session opened up for a Q and A with the audience, the questions were all about “how can we ask OTT to censor shows; my kid is watching violent content?” and so forth. Valid concerns. But is censorship the answer?
